BPP Show 2022

The much loved BPP Show returns on 31 July, 12-7pm.

This free, fun community event encompasses a flower and produce competition, an art exhibition and a dog show. Plus market stalls, food and drinks traders and live music. It’s a fun day out for all ages!

Flower show

Below is the list of categories for the flower and produce show. Enter online here (by 28 July) on in person between 12pm and 3pm on Saturday 30 July, in the Homestead Courtyard. There is a handy step-by-step guide to entering the show here. If you haven’t entered the flower and produce show before, this could be your year!

Flower show categories 2022:

  1. Vase of mixed garden flowers

  2. Vase of roses

  3. Floral display on theme ‘Queen’s Platinum Jubilee’

  4. A fragrant rose (one bloom judged on scent only)

  5. Most exotic home-grown flower, plant or houseplant

  6. Dried flower arrangement

  7. Bowl of salad veg (three varieties)

  8. Three beetroot

  9. A medley of courgettes and/or summer squashes

  10. Tastiest vegetable (judged on raw flavour)

  11. Plate of soft fruit (two or more varieties)

  12. Craft flowers, fruit or vegetables

Children’s categories (judged 10 years and under and 11-16 years).

  1. Flowers in a mug or vase

  2. Tallest sunflower

  3. Miniature garden on theme ‘climate emergency’

  4. Animal garden (in a seed tray)

  5. Vegetable creature (sculpture)

  6. Craft flowers, fruit or vegetables

Dog Show

There are 8 fun categories (listed below) plus a ‘best in show’ chosen from each of the 8 category winners. There will be fantastic prizes for the furry winners!

The show will take place 3-5pm on the grass between the back of the Mansion and the Homestead Courtyard. Follow signs on the day. It is judged by local councillors and this year’s compere has a voice you may recognise if you are a Fireman Sam fan!

Enter on the day near the ring between 10am and 2pm or on Saturday 30 July at Eddie’s Dog Shop in the Homestead Courtyard. £2/entry.

Art exhibition on the theme ‘Local Parks and Gardens’

The art exhibition showcases work by local artists and is held in the Mansion. It is open for the duration of the event (12-7pm).

All work is for sale and attending the exhibition is a great way to support local artists.

The deadline for submission of work this year was 31 May, but follow the social media accounts to hear of opportunities for entering next year.

Programme for the day

Flower show exhibition open 12-7pm in the Education Room on the Homestead Courtyard.

Art Exhibition open 12-7pm in the Mansion (ground floor - in the Dining Room, Drawing Room and Old Library). Entry through the main front entrance.

Market stall traders 12-7pm on the grass behind the Mansion - loosely themed flowers, nature and dogs. Also traders in front of the Mansion (as part of the regular farmers market)

Food and drink traders 12-7pm - about 12 traders located on the grass outside the Mansion bar and also in front of the Mansion (as part of the regular farmers market)

Artists Open Studios 10am-4pm - in the Mansion (basement and first floor)

Flower show prize giving 1:30-2:30pm behind the Mansion, with the Lewisham Mayoresses

Live music from Wuntanara West African drumming (12:30-1:15pm), Sing All Together Beckenham (2:30-3:30pm) and the Alvar Tree Frogs (4-5pm and 5:30-6:30pm) behind the Mansion

Free clay sunflower making workshop with Mia Beard 1-4pm, behind the Mansion

Free ‘noodle doodle’ craft workshop with Creation Station 12-4pm, behind the Mansion

The Mansion Bar and Café, the Homestead Café, and the kiosk by the playground will be serving as usual. The Mansion Café ice-cream cart will also be serving.

Toilets for the event are located in the Homestead Courtyard, in the Mansion, and portaloos along the drive in front of the Mansion.
