Meet the business - Eddie’s Dog Shop

This series introduces the various businesses that operate from Beckenham Place Park. You can find Eddie’s Dog Shop in the Homestead courtyard.

Hello, what’s your name, what do you do and what company do you represent?

Hi, we are John & Danielle, and our company is Eddie’s Dog Shop, located in The Courtyard of Beckenham Place Park. We supply dog treats and accessories to meet all the needs of the dog patrons of the park.

What does Eddie’s Dog Shop do? What do you offer park visitors?

Eddie’s Dog Shop offers high-quality natural treats, including 100% natural and a variety of popular high street branded products. We also provide a selection of items that would be beneficial to dog walkers and their dogs whilst using the park, such as, biodegradable poo bags, frisbees, ball launchers, cooling mats, assorted toys, collapsible dog bowls, training treats & leads and a variety of novelty items.

When did Eddie’s Dog Shop join the businesses in the park?

We opened on Easter Weekend 2021, it was a great success, especially with the doggy easter eggs we sold!

What attracted you or the business to Beckenham Place Park?

Being local residents and our parents/grandparent’s local residents too, we have used the park on a regular basis for many decades. After seeing the area transform from a Golf Course to a wonderful park we realised how many dog walkers now use this area, but just like us always tend to forget to bring our furry friends necessary items. So, we had the idea to offer a service that compliments BPP and its patrons

How many people does Eddie’s Dog Shop employ?

At present only 2, but as the business grows, we would look to employ staff from the local area.

What is your most popular product or service?

Our most popular items are the natural treats, 100% salmon, 100% venison and our Gourmet Smoked Chicken Sausages. Our 100% fish range from Goodchaps in Devon is also proving popular, and the biodegradable poo bags!

Tell us about your efforts to make your business more eco-friendly

Our Goodchaps fish range from Devon is very sustainable as all their packaging is biodegradable, including their rope toys, which we hope to start stocking soon! We only sell biodegradable poo bags and we are looking at new ranges which degrade quicker. All our natural treat selection is packaged in 100% biodegradable clear bags, and we only use brown paper bags along with biodegradable carrier bags.

Tells us about a community project you’ve engaged with in Beckenham Place Park

We are looking to source quicker degrading poo bags, which are made of cornstarch and sugar, with this in mind we were hoping with the help of LB of Lewisham and BPP to start a compost heap to use for flower beds in the park. We would also be looking at supplying the park with doggy waste bins.

What’s your best tip about the park?

Our most enjoyable time in the park is first thing in the morning, whilst we are setting up for the day, as the sun rises over the trees and hills, it feels like a magical area in the middle of London away from the hustle and bustle of normal life. It’s very quiet at this time, with few people and dogs running free, it makes us feel very appreciative to have this beautiful place on our doorstep.

Can you share one fact about your company that most people don’t know about?

Without BPP then our business would not exist, so a single thought and a great location seemed to have come together.

Anything else you’d like to share with our readers?

We are very friendly people and like to have a chat with our customers, building relationships with the public. We are interested in locally produced products for our furry friends and are already in discussions with local homemade doggy biscuits makers and hygiene products. So should you have a homemade product that you feel we could promote, please pop down and see us and have a chat!
