Volunteering opportunities at Beckenham Place Park

Please note: we are not currently taking applications from new volunteers. We expect to be able to re-open the application process for new volunteers in January 2023.

In the meantime, you could approach BPP parkrun, BPP junior parkrun or the Friends of Beckenham Place Park, all of whom have volunteering opportunities available.

We are lucky to have a thriving volunteer community in the park. Volunteers from a range of backgrounds and with a wide range of skills help with all sorts of tasks including: gardening, woodland management, running events, running the Twitter account, litter picking, helping with promotion of park events, running workshops, bee keeping, butterfly and moth surveys. The weekly parkrun and junior parkrun events are entirely run by volunteers too.

The volunteer hub in the park is Gardener’s Cottage which is in the Pleasure Grounds. The cottage has the community garden around it. In the garden, volunteers grow produce which is donated to a local community food project called Downham Gleaning Kitchen. You might spot volunteers in the community garden hard at work, or having a cup of tea! They will always be happy to talk to interested passers by.

Organised volunteering sessions happen 3 times and week (Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays) and one Saturday per month. These are run by Lucy, the park’s Lead Ranger.

To volunteer, you must register. Email beckenhamplacepark@lewisham.gov.uk to express your interest. Sessions have a capacity limit, so it is essential to book before joining a session.

The upcoming Saturday volunteering sessions are on:

30 July (flower show set up)
Sunday 31 July (the flower, art and dog show)
20 August 10:30am-1pm
24 September 10:30am -1pm

Volunteering is a great way to give back to the park, meet new friends, do some exercise in the fresh air, and generally go home glowing!
