Public Space Protection Order (PSPO)

In November 2022, Mayor and Cabinet approved plans to move forward by introducing a Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) across the borough. Lewisham Council are running an 8-week public consultation from Monday 27 February until Sunday 30 April to hear as many views as possible from people who live and work in Lewisham. Proposed changes include Beckenham Place Park.

PSPOs are an additional tool that can be used to deter antisocial behaviour and a PSPO will allow officers to issue a warning or a fixed penalty notice for the following activities:

  • Alcohol-related antisocial behaviour and disorder

  • Consumption of drugs and psychoactive substances

  • Illegal encampments

  • Public urination and defecation

  • Amplified speech or music in open spaces

  • Dog-related antisocial behaviour in public spaces and parks
