New volunteering opportunities

Environmental charity Thames21 will be working with Lewisham Council to create new programmes of activities that explore, improve and care for the River Ravensbourne and the areas that surround it based in the east of Beckenham Palace Park, as part of the major restoration taking place over the next year.

Lewisham Council is creating a complex of new nature ponds, wetlands and river restoration that will reduce flood risk in the River Ravensbourne catchment and a new woodland green link between Beckenham Place Park and Downham, including the installation of new rain gardens and swales.

Thames21 will be offering a programme of regular volunteering sessions and events that will allow people to get to know their river, support the major works and aim to create a better river environment for people and wildlife.  The activities will be free and any specialised equipment provided for people joining in.

If you want to know more about your river, getting active to make a difference to your environment or want meet new people in one of Lewisham's biggest and most diverse blue-green spaces, you can contact Thames21 for more information on bppriver@thames21.org.uk
