East side improvements update

Works are continuing at a pace to enhance the east side of Beckenham Place Park.

Excavation for special features

Despite the very wet weather of the past few months, the excavations of large volumes of earth to create the new sunken meadows, new pond, areas of mounding and new access points to the river are close to being complete.  Water that has settled in the area of excavation has now drained away, following the connection of the sunken meadows back to the river. The newly excavated shallow nature pond at the south of the area of excavation has also been drained of excess water.

Paths

Creation of new and improved paths will commence shortly, along with the mountain bike and activity trails though the area of new mounding just to the east of the railway line.  Gym activity equipment has already been installed and new benches and picnic tables have been delivered to site ready for installation.  Seeding of grass, wildflower meadows, new aquatic planting and extensive planting of shrubs and trees will follow.

Playground and old changing block

On the playground side of the river, the dilapidated changing block has now been demolished, following careful work to remove asbestos.  The material from the changing block has been crushed and reused on site as a base for new paths and the new multi-use games area in this part of the park.

New paths and the overall layout of this area is starting to take shape and playground equipment is being installed.  Linking the two sides of the river a new bridge will shortly be installed.

Gardens in Old Bromley Road

As part of the wider aim to better link the park to surrounding areas, outside of the park, on Old Bromley Road, rain gardens and street gardens have been constructed.
