Introduction to Moths By Butterfly Conservation

  • Beckenham Place Park Beckenham Hill Road BR3 1SY UK (map)

Moths are often overlooked in comparison to butterflies, but we have over 2,500 species of moth in Britain alone! Moths are a vital part of our ecosystem and come in all shapes, sizes and colours. Many are just as bright and beautiful as butterflies and others showing incredible camouflage to expertly blend in with their surroundings.

During the event, which is delivered in partnership with Buttefly Conservation and BPP Staff, you will have a chance to get up close with some of these amazing creatures as Steve will be identifying, talking about, and showing which moths were attracted to our light trap the night before*.

*Please note that the light trap is not harmful to moths and all moths will be safely released after the event.

We will also talk about the small steps you can take to help both moths and butterflies thrive in London, no matter where you live.

London is home to a surprising diversity of butterflies and moths. Over twenty-five of the UK's 59 butterfly species can be spotted in the capital. Big City Butterflies is an exciting new project which will inspire Londoners to discover butterflies and moths, and connect them with nature and their local green spaces.
